I led a previous expedition
To the high mountain ranges of Antarctica
Whilst there my crew split up in two
And explored only to find fourteen ancient life forms
After several days we lost contact with Lake’s crew
I gathered my men and left to find Lake’s desolated campsite
Men and dogs slaughtered, red snow all around
The killer unknown, but looming over us were
The Mountains! Of Madness!
Inhabited by
The Creatures! Of Silence!
Madness, ness, ness…….
We counted the dead and found we were 2 short,
A man named Gedney and his dog were nowhere to be found
Maybe they escaped! Maybe they’re still alive!
My apprentice Danforth started the plane and we took to the sky!
Over the mountain peaks; so sharp we searched
Only to see a Cyclopean city of cubes and cones
We landed, and descended in the subterranean dark
The Murals told of elder things that come to the earth
And enslaved the Shoggoths to construct the structures
But this unstable civilization could not last long
While the Shoggoth rise up to occupy
The Mountains! Of Madness!
We are not alone in this
Cavern! Of Darkness!
Found is a horrid scene of the missing bodies
Dissected . . . We make our way further
In to the deep, dark

If shapeless black!
We recognized the abhorrent mass
A Shoggoth from the stories past
A myriad of eyes, protoplasmic kind
A pulsing, luminous nightmare
As the horror made its advance
It spat up two Eldritch chants
“Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!!”
Terrified, we fled back whence we came
Through Cyclopean halls engraved
Like a blur we floated in a
Nebulous world without time, causation
Or orientation!
“We escaped,
The Mountains of Madness!
We boarded the plane and vowed never to return to
The Antarctic of horrors!
Danforth took one last look
At the alien peaks and in that
Moment went Mad!
